THE NEED

A child’s education affects more than just the child. It affects everyone. Even you.

The 88,000 students in Metro Nashville Public Schools need your help. One day they’ll be starting new businesses, entering the workforce and laying the foundation for Nashville’s future. Whether you’re a neighbor, teacher, employer or parent, you can make a difference.

We have made significant strides and progress for students, but we can still do more. Consider this:

29%

29%

of our students score a 21 or higher on the ACT, a basic threshold for college readiness.

39%

39%

of students in grades 3 to 8 meet the state standards in reading, and only 47% meet state standards in math.

60%

60%

of our students attend one of the state’s most challenged schools in the state.

77%

77%

of all students in our public schools come from economically disadvantaged homes.

16%

16%

of our students come from non-English-language backgrounds with 140+ languages spoken.

Our approach is simple: invest heavily in four key areas to bring rapid change and measurable results.

  • Connector.

Develop the nation’s best public education system.

The NPEF brings policymakers, private and philanthropic communities, parents, educators, the faith community, and neighborhood leaders together to chart a community-driven vision for education.

  • Connector.

    Invest in innovation.

The Foundation’s fundraising efforts center around raising private funding for public school excellence. Read more about how we are making it all possible with the Innovation Fund.

  • Connector.

Grow the capacity of the district.

The Foundation brings outside expertise and training to the district. We also partner with schools to provide parents with better data and information so they can make the right school choices for their children.

  • Connector.

    Forge deep, collaborative partnerships.

Systemic change happens only when everyone has a seat at the table. The NPEF facilitates knowledge sharing, collaboration among traditional zoned schools and charter schools, and aligning the interests of the business and philanthropic communities with the needs of MNPS.

NPEF helps our schools overcome these challenges.
