Transition team recommends big changes for Nashville schools

Metro Nashville Public Schools should consider moving fifth grade to elementary schools to help address student attrition between elementary and middle school, according to recommendations in a report Tuesday night by Director of Schools Shawn Joseph’s transition team.

The recommendation is just one of 100 presented to the school board and Joseph after six months of work by the 47-member transition team made up of members from across the nation and Nashville. The transition team, formed in July during Joseph’s first month on the job, was tasked with informing the new director on the needs of the district as he adjusted to his post.
