Every child in Nashville should have access to a great public education. The Nashville Public Education Foundation is committed to making this a reality. Through innovative programming and strategic investments, we make an impact. By pulling together the city’s intellectual, creative and financial resources, we help every child prepare for college, work and life.

Our History

In 2001, Nelson C. Andrews envisioned a dedicated nonprofit that would unite public- and private-sector resources and leaders around strategies to strengthen Nashville’s public schools. By 2004, the Nashville Public Education Foundation formally opened its doors with the help of Tom Sherrard, Harvey Sperling, Ralph Schulz, Ken Roberts and Pete Bird, who worked alongside Andrews.

The organization has expanded on his vision, uniting community activists, the business community, the faith community, educators and parents to advocate for and support public school excellence.

Over the years, we’ve partnered with many organizations to further the Foundation’s mission.
