At age 10, Marley Dias felt there were not enough books with black girls as the main character. She felt there should be more books representing girls like her – not just as minor, supporting characters, but as the center of the story. And she was definitely not alone. Her idea has started the campaign #1000BlackGirlBooks, which with the help of immense support from the public, has helped identify and collect books in which black girls will be able to positively see themselves.
