Hallelujah! Rejoice! The Metro Nashville Board of Education is scheduled to decide Friday who the next director of schools will be. This week has been chock-full of two-hour candidate interviews, community forums with each candidate and meet-and-greets with Metro Council and local business leaders. If the board doesn’t feel they know the would-be directors at this point, that may only have to do with the process of finding the candidates.
The finalists who interviewed for the top job in the district are: Jesus Jara, deputy superintendent for Orange County Public Schools in Florida; Shawn Joseph, deputy superintendent for teaching and learning for Prince George’s County Schools in Maryland; and Allen Smith, chief of schools for Oakland Unified School District in California.
