As a father of two school-aged children here in Metro Nashville Public Schools, and as an educator serving over the last 22 years as a teacher, school leader and district administrator, I have never felt more passionate about getting things right for our children in our schools.
Nationally, graduation rates and college-going rates are up. However, too many of Nashville’s children are still not reading on grade level. As a result, they are not developing the knowledge and skills required both to succeed in the modern workforce and to contribute meaningfully to civic life.
I am proud of the direction our board of education has set for this school district. They established one of the most rigorous evaluation tools in the state to evaluate our system’s performance, and they have identified objective indicators to assess our progress.
