New Nashville schools chief: Reform won’t happen from top down

The Nashville community will have a strong voice in helping incoming Director of Schools Shawn Joseph map a route to improve Metro Nashville Public Schools, the superintendent said in an exclusive interview Wednesday with The Tennessean.

“I have never seen dramatic reform in a school system that comes from the top down,” he said. “It is not sustainable. … If you want long-term sustainability, you have to actively be a part of the community.”
