The Nashville Public Education Foundation (NPEF) announced today that Cigna has signed on as the presenting sponsor of this year’s citywide Show Your Love for Teachers campaign, an effort to recognize and reward Nashville’s 6,800 public school educators.

This year’s campaign will include a multitude of efforts throughout the month of May to focus attention on the vital role teachers play and the imperative of stronger community support for them. Area businesses are being asked to offer year-round educator discounts. A traveling exhibit, underwritten by Cigna, will give Nashvillians a chance to write personal thank-you notes so teachers know how much they are appreciated. In addition, several other special prizes, pop-up events and celebrations are planned throughout the month involving community leaders, celebrities and more.

“Public school teachers are often the unsung heroes of our communities, and we are proud to join the Nashville Public Education Foundation in recognizing and celebrating our teachers through the Show Your Love campaign,” said Greg Allen, MidSouth market president, Cigna. “My mom was a first-grade teacher for over 30 years, and seeing her deep commitment to her students made me proud to be her son, so I couldn’t be more pleased to support teachers through this campaign.”

Last year, the NPEF secured more than 160 educator discounts from local businesses across the city through the campaign, making Nashville’s the largest educator discount program in the Southeast. The hope is to beat that record this year.

The campaign officially kicks off May 1 and will feature even more educator discounts, a five-stop road show across Nashville featuring the community’s thank-you notes to teachers, and a few surprises just for teachers throughout the month.

“An important part of the Show Your Love for Teachers campaign is bringing the entire community, including the business community, together to say ‘thank you’ to our teachers in a big way,” said NPEF President and CEO Shannon Hunt. “We are grateful to Cigna for recognizing the importance of this work and for supporting our effort to make every single one of Nashville’s public school teachers feel valued and appreciated.”
