I think that many Nashvillians, perhaps including the nine members of the Metro school board, were a little stunned when the board took just 30 minutes to unanimously agree on Shawn Joseph to be the new director of Metro Nashville Public Schools.
Ten months after the tortured process that ended with Williamson County Schools Director Mike Looney turning down the board’s offer, which resulted in a heap of criticism, finger pointing and hand-wringing, the Metro school board completed a dramatic turnaround — something it will be counting on Joseph to do in Metro’s 15 “priority” schools.
